Oak Hills' Laumann wins 400th career game

Oak Hills baseball coach Chuck Laumann recently won his 400th career game when the Highlanders defeated Turpin in a regular-season game on May 8.

Laumann has coached for 23 years, including the past 21 at Oak Hills. He coached Woodward for two seasons.

Laumann, who has a 402-227 record, said he is most proud of the consistency in the Oak Hills program. He has also enjoyed coaching his children in basketball, soccer and in baseball. Laumann is also a member of the Oak Hills Athletic Hall of Fame.

Oak Hills plays Mason at 5 p.m. Thursday in a Division I sectional final at Elder's Jack Adam Baseball Stadium.

"Every year our experience and talent level fluctuates and many times we are not as deep as our competition or even the perennial top teams in our conference but we have been able to compete year in and year out with the top teams and contend for the GMC title," Laumann said.

• Western Brown catcher Tim Ward committed to play baseball at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, according to athletic director Tim Cook.

• The Southwest Ohio Baseball Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game is June 1 at Prasco Park.

ELDER SCHEDULE SET: The Elder football team has completed its 2014 schedule as athletic director Dave Dabbelt announced Monday afternoon the Panthers have a signed contract with Rosa Fort High School of Tunica, Miss.

The game will be Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at Elder. The contract is a one-year deal, Dabbelt said.

Dabbelt said Rosa Fort High School would be the equivalent of a Division I program in Ohio.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Seven Hills senior guard Lauren Weems has committed to play at Emory, according to Seven Hills. Weems, an Enquirer Division IV player of the year this past seson, averaged 16.6 points, 2.8 steals, 6.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists in the regular season. She was the Division IV District 16 player of the year. She was Associated Press special mention all-state and first-team all-district.

• Milford senior guard Bridget Rheude has committed to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Cincinnati Clermont College, according to the Milford athletic department. She led the Eastern Cincinnati Conference at 3.7 assists per game last season. She was fourth in the conference at 2.2 steals per game.

LACROSSE: The girls' regional tournament continues Tuesday night as the Division II semifinals will be played around the area. Seton is scheduled to play at Worthington Kilbourne, Mariemont at Summit Country Day and Columbus Academy at Indian Hill. The Divisions I and II regional finals are Thursday.

Boys' lacrosse Division I regional first round games are Thursday with regional quarterfinals on Saturday. Division II regional first round games are Wednesday with quarterfinals on Friday. Club division regional first round games are Thursday with quarterfinals on Saturday.

OHSAA: Lakota West athletic director Scott Kaufman and New Richmond athletic director Doug Foote were elected to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Southwest District Board. Both will officially start Aug. 1. Kaufman and Foote were interim members this school year. Dayton Oakwood athletic director Joy Manning was also elected for next school year for the Southwest District. The athletic board is the Southwest representation of the OHSAA that is responsible for running the OHSAA sanctioned tournaments from sectionals through districts.

"I have always felt honored to be a part of the Southwest District Board and I am excited that I am able to again," Kaufman said. "We have such tremendous athletics in Southwest Ohio. The goal is to run first class tournament for the student-athletes of Southwest Ohio and it is humbling to be a part of that process."

RUGBY: Moeller plays Cleveland St. Ignatius in a Division I state semifinal at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Hills. Lakewood St. Edward plays Hudson in the other state semifinal at 5:15 p.m. The state final is 7:15 p.m. May 31 in Hudson.

BOYS' VOLLEYBALL: The state tournament is at Hamilton this Saturday and Sunday. St. Xavier plays Clayton Northmont in a Division I quarterfinal at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by Lakota East vs. Elder at 11:45 a.m. in another state quarterfinal. McNicholas plays Alter in a Division II semifinal at 6:45 p.m. Saturday. The Division I state semifinals and final is Sunday, while the Division II state final is also Sunday.

BOYS' BASKETBALL: Former Xavier player Jamal Walker was recently named the Princeton coach, according to Vikings athletic director Gary Croley. Walker was a point guard at Xavier from 1987-91. Walker was Woodward's athletic director for 14 years. He was the Princeton head junior varsity basketball coach and varsity assistant last season.

BOYS' SWIMMING: St. Xavier senior Sean Fallon has committed to Washington University, according to the St. X athletic department.

URSULINE: The school's athletics program won the GGCL All Sports Award for the sixth consecutive season, according to athletic director Diane Redmond. The school has 18 seniors in 10 different sports that received scholarships to continue to playing at a variety of college programs, Redmond said last week.
