Reading’s Roberts dominant

Junior pitcher Grayson Roberts had his bid for a no-hitter broken up with two outs in the seventh inning, but Reading held on to beat Clark Montessori 3-0 in their Division III sectional matchup on Friday.

Roberts (4-1) struck out eight batters. With two outs in the seventh, Clark Montessori’s Trevor Theuerling reached first on an infield hit on a close play at first base. Roberts induced a groundout to the next batter to end the game.

Senior second baseman Brandon Pavilack went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI to lead the Blue Devils.

Pavilack hit a two-run single in the first inning, and doubled in the fourth inning to score the third run for Reading.

Reading (19-8), ranked No. 8 in the final Enquirer Divisions II-IV coaches’ poll, extended its current winning streak to eight games.

The Blue Devils advance to face the North College Hill/Roger Bacon winner on Wednesday at Kings at 5 p.m.

Clark Montessori finishes their season at 9-14.

Clermont Northeastern 4, Bethel-Tate 0, Division III sectional: CNE’s Nick Tipton threw six innings, and 13 of the 18 outs he forced came via strikeout

Jay Teaney led CNE with a pair of hits on the night.

CHCA 10, East Clinton 0,

Division III sectional: Cameron Varga struck out 16 batters and allowed no hits in a five-inning complete game.

The 15th batter of the game reached after a swing and a miss and a passed ball, allowing Varga to strikeout the 16th batter of the game.

Varga has now recorded 32 straight outs via the strikeout over the last three games.

Cam and Chase Murray combined to go 6-for-6 and drove in six of the ten CHCA runs.

CHCA moves on to play Clermont Northeastern Wednesday at Summit Country Day.

Softball

Ursuline 4, Colerain 0,

Division I sectional: Danielle Stiene tossed a complete-game gem, allowing only one hit and striking out 13 batters.

Stiene also drove in the game’s first run, with a second inning sacrifice fly, as she improved her record to 15-1.

Ursuline advances to take on Glen Este Monday at Milford.

Seton 5, Mount Notre Dame 2, Division I sectional: Senior pitcher Chelsea Zang struck out six batters, getting out of jam after jam to preserve the win.

Zang was also 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI.

Junior Hannah Wegman was 2-for-3, including hitting a three-run home run in the second inning to put the Saints ahead 5-0.

Seton improved to 13-13 on the season, and advances to play Mason on Monday.

Mount Notre Dame finishes the season at 12-11.

Lebanon 11, Fairmont 0 (five innings), Division I sectional: Junior pitcher Tara Trainer (15-0) struck out seven batters in her three innings of work.

Senior Savannah Scott went 2-for-3, including a three-run double with two outs in the first inning.

Lebanon stayed perfect, improving to 28-0 on the season and advances to play Edgewood on Monday.

Fayetteville-Perry 5, Cincinnati Country Day 2, Division IV sectional: McKenna Hammons finished 3-for-3 with a double, triple and three RBI to lead Fayetteville.

Claire Carson struck out 11 batters over seven innings to earn her 14th win.

Fayetteville moves on to play the Felicty-Franklin/Cedarsville winner Tuesday at Kings. ⬛
