Princeton, Colerain stars highlight Ohio games

Princeton quarterback Tyrell Gilbert is among the GMC standouts scheduled to play in the Divisions I-III Ohio North-South game on April 26 in Dayton.

Several football players will represent the area in the Ohio North-South Games April 26 at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

The Divisions IV-VI game is at 11 a.m. and the Divisions I-III game is at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the annual all-star event are $10 at the gate and good for both games, said Miamisburg coach and game organizer Steve Channell.

Princeton's Tyrell Gilbert (UC signee) and Colerain's Tegray Scales (Indiana signee) are among the Greater Miami Conference standouts scheduled to play in the Divisions I-III game.

Gilbert, who was Princeton's quarterback last season, is listed as a defensive back on the roster. An Enquirer Division II all-area selection, he threw for 1,807 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushed for 1,200 yards and 20 touchdowns last season.

Scales, the Associated Press Division I state co-defensive player of the year, was the Southwest District defensive player of the year after he had 102 tackles, including 12 for loss for the Cardinals.

Several other Enquirer first-team selections are scheduled to play too, including Fairfield wide receiver Herman Brunis (Ohio University signee), Lakota West kicker Justin Martin (Miami University preferred walk-on) and Colerain offensive lineman Ross Demmel (Wofford).

Loveland offensive lineman Andrew Alten (Findlay), Withrow linebacker Reggie Howard (Kent State) and Mount Healthy linebacker Jordan Lackey are scheduled to play. Mount Healthy coach Arvie Crouch is an assistant for the South.

In the Divisions IV-VII game, Clinton-Massie linebacker Kelson Gauden, Cincinnati Christian linebacker Cody Leach (Mount St. Joseph), Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy linebacker Nick Marsh (Amherst), Reading defensive lineman Shane Roy (Pittsburgh) and Clinton-Massie running back Bayle Wolf (Army) are scheduled to play.

Miamisburg freshman offensive lineman Josh Myers has garnered plenty of attention early in his recruiting journey. Myers, who is 6 feet 6 and 280 pounds, has offers from Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, UC, Indiana and Illinois, according to Miamisburg coach Steve Channell.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Princeton senior guard Kelsey Mitchell (Ohio State signee) was named Wednesday to the 2014 American Family Insurance All-USA Today Second Team. Mitchell, who was a McDonald's All American this past season and Associated Press Ohio Ms. Basketball, helped to lead the Vikings to the Division I state title in March in Columbus.

• Norwood senior Natalie Stoeppel has committed to play at Cincinnati Christian University, according to Norwood athletic director JD Foust. Stoeppel, who is the second all-time leading scorer in Norwood basketball history, according to Foust, was a four-year starter and finished her career with 1,096 points.

• Mercy senior Emily Budde has signed with DePauw University. She was the 2014 GGCL Co-Player of the Year. She currently holds the Mercy records for most 3-pointers in one game (six) and highest scoring average in a season, according to the school.

• Mercy senior Olivia Schad will play at Centre College. She was named 2014 GGCL Honorable Mention.

• Lakota West senior guard Ellie Kivell committed to Wilmington College, according to the Lakota West athletic department.

BOYS' BASKETBALL: Franklin junior shooting guard Luke Kennard was named a MaxPreps third-team All-American on Monday. On Wednesday, he was named to the MaxPreps Junior All-American first team. Kennard, who is verbally committed to Duke, was Associated Press Ohio Mr. Basketball and the Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year this past season. He averaged 40 points, 10.4 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

• Alcorn State is the latest offer for Walnut Hills junior combo guard MaCio Teague, Walnut Hills coach Ricardo Hill said Monday night. Teague was third-team all-state and first-team all-district last season. He averaged 22.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.8 steals.

BOYS' GOLF: Turpin senior Corey Flynn has committed to play golf for Scott Webb, PGA Golf professional and Surge head golf coach at Cincinnati State, according to Turpin athletic director Eric Fry. Flynn, who was a three-year starter, was named Eastern Cincinnati Conference First Team, and finished second overall in the ECC with a 38.35 scoring average.

He was a medalist with even par (70) at the Fairfield Invitational Tournament and was medalist or co-medalist in nine matches including King of the Hill. He plans to enroll in the associate of arts/science program in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in Sports Management.

GIRLS' SOCCER: Madeira senior goalkeeper Sarah Mahler has committed to play at Carnegie Mellon University, according to Madeira coach Dan Brady.

GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK: Mercy senior Emma Hatch will continue her athletic and academic career at Loyola University Chicago.
