St. Xavier in command, Anderson moves up in latest Ohio football poll

COLUMBUS -  In the most recent Ohio Associated Press poll, St. Xavier High School received the majority of the Division I first-place votes as the Bombers continue to pull away from the competition at 8-0. The Bombers have a rematch of last year's state title game with Cleveland St. Ignatius this Friday.  Moeller, by way of knocking off St. Ignatius 41-20 received votes and was 12th overall, with Elder 13th and curiously one first-place vote.  The Colerain Cardinals, who haven't lost since starting 0-2 finished 15th.

Moeller now hopes for another upset of No. 2 Lakewood St. Edward this Saturday to reach five wins. Otherwise, they'll have another tough one with Winton Woods Oct. 27.  Colerain should finish 8-2 with upcoming dates against Lakota West and Oak Hills.  All three locals not in the AP top 10 (Moeller, Elder, Colerain) are in reasonably comfortable positions in the OHSAA computer rankings. Those are officially released Tuesday afternoon.

Anderson made the jump to second overall in Division II by remaining 8-0 with a 58-16 blowout of neighborhood rival Turpin.  Winton Woods dropped to fourth after their 35-34 overtime loss to Elder, but the Warriors did receive more first-place votes than Anderson (4 to 2).  La Salle also received two first-place votes and is seventh overall.

In Division III Goshen received votes after their dramatic 33-31 win over Clinton-Massie, but are still two out of the top 10 at No. 12.  Undefeated Wyoming is up from 10th to sixth in Division IV.

Also at 8-0 is Bethel-Tate, who keeps their No. 10 position in Division V.  Their start matches their 1968 Clermont County League champions.  The Tigers have a reasonable shot at 10-0 with 1-7 Williamsburg this week and 5-3 Fayetteville Oct. 27.
