Man who admitted raping his mother: 'I blacked out'

A Cincinnati man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to raping his 63-year-old mother and will serve 11 years in prison.

As the judge read the terms of the plea, the man, 46, shocked both sides when he said he was not guilty of the charges, despite signing the agreement minutes beforehand.

"What is your plea to count 1, the offense of felonious assault ... guilty or not guilty?" Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles Kubicki said.

"Not guilty. I take my plea back. I want to go to trial with this," he said. "It's all bogus and lies."

The defendant and his attorney, Edward Keller, talked for a few minutes then again stood before the judge. Keller said his client was having trouble with the idea of a long prison sentence.

"He's having a hard time wrapping his mind around that," Keller said.

The man went on to plead guilty to charges of rape, felonious assault and kidnapping.

"Are you satisfied with your terms?" Kubicki said.

"No I'm not, but yes I am," he said. "I am satisfied."

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped charges of attempted rape and abduction for the attack that happened earlier this year.

"This is a bad situation. I feel bad about the whole incident. But I don't even know what happened. I blacked out, somebody slipped me something in my drink. I don't even know what was going on. I just don't know," he said to the judge. 

Assistant Prosecutor Anne Flanagan said during the assault, the victim suffered a broken neck. The mother's DNA also was recovered from the defendant's genitals after the rape, Flanagan said.

She suffered bruises, cuts and bite marks to her inner thighs and back, court documents said. Documents also said he “dragged her around the home, punching her in the face and body."

The Enquirer does not name victims of sexual assault, and is not naming the man to avoid identifying his mother.

After the assault, the mother ran naked to a neighbor's house and the son followed her and "threw her over a fence back to their yard," Flanagan said.

According to prosecutors, the mother was not involved in the case recently due to "affection for her son."
