A former La Salle, University of Cincinnati and Bengals linebacker was convicted Thursday of assault and public indecency stemming from strange series of events in February.

Jerome JK Schaffer, 26, pleaded no contest to reduced charges in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

On Feb. 19, police said Schaffer got in a fight then exposed himself to people at the Book of Acts Tabernacle Church on Chapel Road in Hamilton.

Mike Allen, who represented Schaffer in court, said his client is now doing very well and has participated in some treatment programs.

"He is not the individual he was on the date these things happened," Allen said.

Schaffer joined the Bengals' practice squad in 2012 and played nine games for the team in 2013. The Bengals waived him in August of 2014.

At the University of Cincinnati, he became one of only four players in Big East history to record 100-plus tackles in three different seasons.

Allen said Schaffer will not be sentenced in the case until next month.
