The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a stun gun was used to get a juvenile girl to comply with deputies Saturday during a confrontation at Colerain Township skating rink.

In a statement released Monday, the sheriff's office said two deputies were working security under contract at The Skatin' Place.

The deputies reported that the juvenile girl had been told to leave the business multiple times by staff. The deputies also asked her to leave, according to the release.

"Using extremely disrespectful language, she vehemently refused to comply," the sheriff's office said.

According to the release, the deputies then attempted to escort her from the business.

"She struck a deputy twice in the face, and proceeded to continue to kick both Deputies," the release said. "She was given several verbal commands to stop resisting which she also ignored."

During the confrontation, the deputies reported they used the "stun" function of their Taser on the back of the girl's leg to "gain her compliance." Officials said using the stun function does not fire barbs from the Taser and is a less severe level of force than firing the device.

The girl was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and two counts of assault on an officer.

The sheriff's office said the use of force in the incident is being investigated, following the standard protocol whenever force is used. Mike Robison, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said investigators are attempting to retrieve surveillance video from The Skatin' Place. Portions of the encounter were captured on cell phone video and posted online.

"However, initial indications are the deputies reacted consistent[ly] with policies and procedures," the release said.
