SHARONVILLE – As far as father-son trips go, this one brought Ed and Cole Soldo to the end of the earth.

The pair traveled to Iceland in 2014, during the Summer Solstice, where Ed Soldo chronicled their adventure with photos that spanned snow-capped mountains to curious puffins. “Iceland ... A Road Trip,” captures the dramatic landscape of Viking adventure and Norse settlers.

Soldo will share his photos March 17, as part of the Photography Club of Greater Cincinnati’s annual Travel Series at Sharon Woods.

Throughout March and April, local photographers will share their adventures through photos that represent their travels across the globe, and include scenery, local residents and wild life, among other representations of cultures worldwide.

Here is a look at Soldo’s show.

Why did you travel there?

The purpose of this trip was to take a father and son adventure to a land of fire and ice located just outside the Arctic Circle.”

Describe your trip.

“The photographs document a two-week self-drive circumnavigation of the island. Featured are the sites encountered along the coastal ring road and those of a track bisecting the interior highlands.

The four themes of roads, fire, ice and water are explored in this program. Photos taken during a variety of weather conditions of the tracks traveled provide counterpoints to those of the iconic waterfalls, glaciers, active geothermal fields and sites of historic value.”

What was the highlight of your trip?

“The cultural highlight of the trip was the UNESCO World Heritage Site located in a significant geological feature where in 930AD the Viking chieftains established the world’s first parliamentary democracy. Walking on an active rift zone of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge where the North American tectonic plate is pulling away from the Eurasian plate was exhilarating.”

What would you like visitors to take away from your photo presentation?

“By providing relevant information and visuals, I hope to encourage those who have an interest to travel to Iceland to do so.”

The Photography Travel Series is a free program, open to the public, though a valid Great Parks of Hamilton County sticker is required for entry to Sharon Woods. They can be bought at the park for $3 a day, or $10 for the year.

The travel series is celebrating 25 years as part of the club that was established in 1951. The Photography Club of Greater Cincinnati meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at the Evendale Arts Center, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is a change from its previous schedule and location in Wyoming. Annual membership is $35 for an individual and $50 for a family.
