Ohio State Police Officer Alan Horujko.

The officer who "neutralized" the Ohio State University student who police say injured 11 people in a campus attack on Monday graduated from Fairfield High School.

Officials confirmed Monday that officer Alan Horujko shot and killed Abdul Razak Ali Artan. Police said Artan was responsible for running over several people with his car then attacking others with a butcher's knife.

Horujko graduated from Fairfield High School in 2007, according to previous reporting by The Enquirer. President of the school's rocket club, he planned to major in engineering.

OSU's student newspaper, The Lantern, reported he studied in engineering at the school for three years before switching his focus to security and intelligence.

Horujko graduated in 2012 and began working with OSU's Student Safety Services. Officials said he was hired as an officer for the OSU Police Division in January of 2015.

His mother, Nancy Franks, when reached by phone Monday evening said she was instructed not to comment about her son at this time.

2 minutes, 11 victims, endless questions after OSU attack

Fairfield City Councilman Bill Woeste said the city hopes to honor Horujko at a future council meeting.

"He's become a terrific police officer. That's pretty obvious by the events of today,'' said Woeste, who is friends with Horujko's family and was scout master while he was in Cub Scouts.

"We're going to keep him in our prayers because whenever you take a life – under any circumstance – it's a traumatic experience."
