Madeira Police Chief Frank Maupin is retiring after 38 years of service to the Madeira Police Department.

“Frank has been with us since 1978. In this day and age that is unheard of in a lot of professions and certainly in the police profession,” Madeira City Manager Tom Moeller said.

His retirement goes into effect Dec. 31. Moeller said the city has completed interviews for the next police chief and will have Maupin’s replacement named before he leaves.

“I really just want to thank everyone; the residents, council, my wife and daughter. I think I have done a good job hiring all the officers we have now so you will be left in great hands. Nothing to worry about,” Maupin said.

Maupin started with the Madeira Police Department in 1978 as a full-time officer. He joined the Hamilton County Dive Team in 1980. He was promoted to sergeant in 1989 and lieutenant in 1990 before being promoted to police chief in 2001.

Mayor Melisa Adrien said he oversaw the modernization of the department and did everything he could to ensure the safety of his officers.

“He also improved the level of service to the residents of Madeira at every opportunity, including the addition of the first bicycle patrol and K-9 patrol,” Adrien said.

He was also part of the OVI Task Force and Drug Abuse Resistance Task Force. He also served as the president for the Hamilton County Association of Chiefs of Police.

“(Being a police officer) is very difficult job and to stay in the profession for that long really tests their patience, strength and will and Frank is no exception to that,” Moeller said.
