A man was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of a babysitter pushing a stroller on Oct. 10, according to court records.

Martin Leach, 41, of Greenhills, turned himself in at the Hamilton County Justice Center, was processed and released, court documents said.

The babysitter, also of Greenhills, was 66-year-old Mary Ellen Smith, who died the day after being struck by a pickup trick while walking two children, ages 4 and 17 months, in a stroller.

Smith was hit at Winton and Ingram roads just before noon Oct. 10, Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil reported.

Leach, police said, was the driver turning left from westbound Ingram Road to southbound Winton Road when he struck Smith and the stroller in a marked crosswalk. Police said Leach failed to yield.

The children were transported to Cincinnati Children's Hospital. They were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Jillian Jones lives near where the accident happened. She said she and other neighbors couldn't believe what they heard, especially after police said speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors.

"It's heartbreaking because I have kids, and it's little stuff like that which is very dangerous," Jones said.

Leach was not injured.

Court documents indicate that Leach was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and is due to be arraigned on Nov. 16.
