On Monday, the same day the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden wanted an end to the Harambe memes, their Twitter page was taken down.

This comes on the heels of a hack of Thane Maynard's Twitter account late Saturday night.

When asked about the Twitter disruption, a zoo spokesperson said, "Thanks. We know."

Harambe, the 17-year-old Western lowland gorilla killed by Cincinnati Zoo officials in May after a 3-year-old boy fell into his enclosure, has been the subject of endless memes.

And the zoo has had enough.

"We are not amused by the memes, petitions and signs about Harambe," Thane Maynard, zoo director, told the Associated Press in an email. "Our zoo family is still healing, and the constant mention of Harambe makes moving forward more difficult for us."

Maynard's Twitter account was hacked over the weekend with what else? Harambe memes.
