The Cleveland Indians released former Cincinnati Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan on Monday.

Last month, Hanigan agreed to a minor-league deal with a Spring Training invitation. The Indians share Goodyear, Ariz., as a Spring Training site with the Reds, and the two teams face each other several times in February and March.

The 37-year-old Hanigan - signed by the Reds in 2002 as an amateur free agent - hit .262 with 20 home runs and 138 RBIs in parts of seven seasons for the Reds from 2007 to 2013. He was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013 as part of a three-team deal that sent David Holmberg from the Diamondbacks to Cincinnati.

Hanigan caught both of Homer Bailey's no-hitters - against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sept. 28, 2012, and against the San Francisco Giants on July 2, 2013.

Hanigan has since played for the Rays, the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies, for which he hit .267 in 112 plate appearances last season.
