COLUMBUS - Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump won't speak at the NAACP convention in Cincinnati, but his one-time GOP challenger, Gov. John Kasich, will.

Kasich will speak at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the 107th annual NAACP Convention Sunday before heading to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention, a spokeswoman for the governor confirmed. A specific time has not yet been announced. Trump declined an invite to the NAACP event, but his Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton will speak to the civil rights organization Monday.

Kasich, as the GOP governor of the host state, will attend events at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland but is not among the speakers. Trump, as the presumptive nominee, is expected to address the convention Thursday night.

It might seem unusual for a popular Republican governor to be absent from the line-up, but Kasich has yet to endorse Trump. Also, Florida Gov. Rick Scott did not speak at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa. Former Gov. Jeb Bush, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and state Attorney General Pam Bondi did.

Still, Kasich has repeatedly told reporters that he won't make trouble for Trump in Cleveland. Ohio Republicans are holding a reception in Kasich's honor Tuesday, and the governor will speak at a reception for the New Hampshire delegation, and the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which endorsed him.
