Middletown student arrested in racial slur, threat

A Middletown High School student is facing a felony charge in connection with a note that contained racial slurs and a death threat according to Middletown Police Chief Rodney Muterspaw.

The 15-year-old student, whose identity was not released, is facing a second-degree felony charge of inducing panic, according to a release from the City of Middletown.

The note contained a possible death threat for Thursday at the high school and was turned over to school resource officer Brandon Highley.

Highley immediately contacted Middletown police and the student was arrested and removed from the school, according to a Facebook post by Muterspaw.

"The MHS staff did a great job of getting on top of this right away and followed correct protocol in dealing with an issue like this," Muterspaw wrote.

No weapons were found on the property during a search and the student acted alone, the release states. Police and school officials do not see any immediate danger resulting from the threat. However police security will be increaed on Thursday.

"Through a very thorough investigation, our administration and school resource officer have found no reason to believe there is any continuing threat," Middletown City School District said in a release. "We will have heightened security upon our return to school in order to allay any fears."
