A car was struck by a train in Walton, Kentucky late Tuesday night. One person was hospitalized.

The driver of a 2015 Jeep was hospitalized when his vehicle slid into a railroad crossing and was hit by a train – twice.

Timothy McCullough, 27, braked as he approached the crossing on Maher Road in Walton on Monday night, but the icy road propelled the Jeep forward and into the side of a passing Norfolk Southern train, according to the Boone County Sheriff's office.

Deputies responded to the collision around 10:40 p.m. and found McCollough inside his Jeep on the tracks complaining of chest and back pains.

As the deputies tended to his injuries, they were warned of an approaching train which was not stopping. They had six minutes to move McCollough to safety.

Fortunately, the deputies accomplished this task quickly and transported the man to the bed of a nearby pickup truck before the second train crashed into what was left of the Jeep, according to the Boone County Sheriff's office.

McCollough was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
