Delta Air Lines ferried seven aircraft to CVG, seeking shelter from the snowstorm hitting the northeast.

Three airlines have ferried aircraft - flown them with no passengers - to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to avoid having them getting stranded at airports in the northeast, which has been hit by a major snowstorm.

It is not unusual for airlines to do this but it is the first time this winter it has occurred, said airport spokesperson Melissa Wiseman.

Delta Air Lines has ferried seven aircraft to CVG: three Boeing 767-400s with a passenger capacity of 245; one 767-300, which carries 218 passengers and three Bombardier CRJ9s, which carry 76 passengers each. They were ferried here from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. US Airways and United Express each ferried one aircraft here from Philadelphia and Newark, respectively.

Delta Air Lines ferried seven aircraft from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport to avoid having them getting stranded by a snowstorm that hit the northeast. They were parked at Concourse C, the old Comair concourse, which closed in 2008.

A total of 27 departures and 30 arrivals were cancelled Tuesday at CVG, Wiseman said.
