An 11-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after she was shot in the arm while cleaning a gun with a family member in Loveland, police said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting at 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Main Street but found what appears to be an accident, a Loveland police dispatcher said.

The girl's injuries are non-life threatening, the dispatcher said.

About seven guns were removed from the home "for safekeeping" while police continue to investigate, the dispatcher said.

Officials could not yet say whether the girl or her family member was cleaning the gun when the incident happened.
