WalletHub: Cincinnati is tops for recreation

Get out and have some fun this weekend: Cincinnati is the best U.S. city for recreation, according to a new WalletHub comparison.

An aerial view of Sawyer Point. The park features award-winning landscaping, a performance pavilion, concessions, an outdoor skating rink, eight outdoor tennis courts, three sand volleyball courts, a world class playground, a dynamic water feature, and many other attractions.

In honor of July being National Park and Recreation Month, the site compiled a list of the "Best & Worst Cities for Recreation," comparing the 100 largest U.S. cities to for their recreation, sports and culture opportunities.

Cities were evaluated based on "24 key metrics that examine each city's finances, parks quality, entertainment and recreation facilities as well as its weather and environmental conditions."

Cincinnati came in at number one on the list. Here's where we ranked in some of the categories they compared:

• 11th – Spending on parks per capita

• 27th – Acres of parkland per capita

• 23rd – Number of attractions per capita

• 18th – Coffee and tea shops per capita

• 1st – Public golf courses per capita

• 2nd – Average food price (pizza and burgers)

• 20th – Average drink price (beer and wine)

• 27th – Bowling costs

• 2nd – Park playgrounds per capita

• 2nd – Swimming pools per capita
