Highlands junior Meredith Laskey could win her sixth straight 10th Region girls' singles title

Two Northern Kentucky tennis stars will get the chance to repeat history when tournaments resume Monday.

Highlands junior Meredith Laskey could win her sixth straight 10th Region girls' singles title, and Covington Catholic junior Austin Hussey could move within a victory of a third straight Ninth Region boys' singles title.

The 10th Region boys' and girls' semifinals and championship matches are scheduled to be played at Harrison County High School, while the 9th Region boys' semifinals will be played at Boone Woods Park. The 9th Region girls' tournament will hold its second round at Lloyd.

Laskey, who is the No. 1 seed, will face No. 4 seed Bryson Clifford of Harrison County in one semifinal, while No. 3 seed Sarah Hoffman of Highlands will meet No. 2 seed Caitlin Conyers of Montgomery County in the other semifinal.

The top-seeded Highlands doubles team of Abby Herman/Lexi Herman will face the No. 7-seeded team of Breanna Crump/Sara Karaus from Montgomery County in one semifinal and the unseeded St. Patrick team of Lauren Heller/Elizabeth Heller will meet the No. 5-seeded team of Lauren Auteri/Caroline Christian from Highlands in the other semifinal.

The 10th Region boys' singles semifinals feature No. 1 seed Ben Emery of Highlands against No. 4 seed Jacob Markley of Harrison County and No. 2 seed Sam Hodgson of Montgomery County against No. 5 seed Laz Wilkerson.

The top four boys' doubles teams in the 10th Region advanced to the semifinals: the No. 1-seeded team of Brooks Harrison/Zane Logan from George Rogers Clark face the No. 3 team of Mason Geiman/Jake Walters from Campbell County, while the No. 2 team of Connor Danis/Will Razor from Montgomery County plays the No. 4 team of Tylor Mitchell/Max Freyburger from Highlands.

Highlands leads the 10th Region girls' team standings with 12 points and Montgomery County is second with nine. In the 10th Region boys' team standings, George Rogers Clark leads with 10 points, Montgomery County is second with eight points and Highlands and Campbell County are tied for third with six points.

The Ninth Region boys' singles semifinals have Hussey, the No. 1 seed and defending state champion, facing No. 6 seed Jake Honschopp of Cooper and No. 2 seed A.J. Berk of Scott playing No. 5 seed Anthony Bosch of Covington Catholic. The doubles semifinals have No. 1 seed C.J. Moellering/Danny Schlachter from Covington Catholic playing No. 4 David Geis/Drake Hudak from Ryle and No. 2 Casey Garnett/Jacob Eberhard from Conner against No. 3 Jacob Haught/Nathan Wichmann from Covington Catholic.

Covington Catholic has already wrapped up the team title with 12 points.

All of the semifinalists have earned a berth in the state tournament that starts May 14 in Lexington.
