Food Network's 'Diners, Drive-ins and Dives' featured Corryville's Island Frydays Sept. 26.

Guy Fieri really enjoyed his trip to the island -- Corryville's Island Frydays -- on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" Friday.

"You're an amazing cat," he told owner and self-taught chef Leo Morgan at the end of his visit, taped in July. "The food is amazing."

Morgan, a former University of Cincinnati linebacker, cooked jerk chicken and spicy fried red snapper at his Jamaican restaurant, 2826 Vine St.,

Fieri said he was lured to Short Vine for the "ridiculous" jerk chicken prepared by Morgan, who came to the U.S. from Jamaica at 14. Fieri laughed at Morgan's basting technique -- spraying Red Stripe beer on chicken quarters on the outdoor grill. It worked.

"That's a ton of flavor. This is outstanding," Fieri said. He also liked the "killer" spicy snapper, saying that "the fish is super moist, the skin is fantastic."

During the eight-minute feature, Morgan explained that he started cooking at UC for his football teammates. "Every Friday was Island Fridays," which inspired the name of the restaurant he opened in 2009, a year after graduating.

"I just try to do basically the best I can, you know. This is not about money. It's about pleasing somebody's taste buds," Morgan said.

The "Worldwide Flavorfest" episode, which also featured Boston and Duluth restaurants, repeats 10 p.m. Monday Sept. 29, and 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.

The all-Cincinnati Over-the-Rhine "Diners" featuring Bakersfield OTR, Senate and Taste of Belgium in Over-the-Rhine will air 10 p.m. Oct. 10 on Food Network. It's called "One Street Wonders."
