A few hours after Deer Park seniors Cory Harmon and Samantha Moses signed letters of intent to participate in track and field in college, both shined in their respective events at the Division II district meet on Thursday at New Richmond High School.

Harmon, who signed with Ashland University on Thursday, out-distanced the closest competitor in the discus by more than 23 feet on Thursday. Moses, who's headed to the University of the Cumberlands where she'll play soccer as well, placed first in the shot put.

The Division II finals will be held at New Richmond on Saturday at approximately 2 p.m. with the top four individuals qualifying for the regional meet, which begins Thursday at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.

Last year, New Richmond edged McNicholas 109-103 to win the girls' team district championship and North College Hill rolled to the boys' district title, 36 points ahead of the Lions.

New Richmond started strong again Thursday, placing second on both the women's and men's side. Taylor led the women's team standings by four points over the Lions, while Wyoming led the men's standings.

New Richmond senior Olivia Behymer won the 400-meter dash, and senior Hannah Hall placed first in the high jump. The Lions also earned a victory in the 4x400-meter relay, led by seniors Paige Anderson and Behymer.

In the 110-meter hurdles, New Richmond's Pierce Burnam and Miles Burnam finished first and second, respectively. Pierce Burnam also won the 300-meter hurdles, and junior Tyler Anderson won the pole vault, helping bolster the Lions' second-place standing.

Wyoming earned a victory in the men's 4x800 relay with the team of sophomore Cullen O'Brien, senior Ian Goertzen, junior Max Hoffman and junior Ben Stites.

Shroder sprinted to wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays led by seniors Emmanuel Alade, Marcus Johnson and Davaughn Jones. Marcus Johnson also won the 400-meter dash.

Rounding out the boys' side: Finneytown won the 4x200 relay. Indian Hills' Wells Coalfleet, a junior, won the 800-meter run. Michael Christman, a junior for Madeira, outlasted Stites in the 1600-meter run. Clark Montessori junior Ian Turner won both the 100- and 200-meter dash. And, Jair Knox, a junior at Purcell Marian, won the men's long jump.

Madeira finished first in the women's 4x800-meter relay and second behind New Richmond in the 4x400.

Finneytown's women's team duplicated the feat of the Wildcats' men's team when they outran North College Hill for a victory in the 4x200 relay. North College Hill got the win in the 4x100 relay.

Also on Thursday in girls' action, Taylor junior Lizzi Lakamp won the 300-meter hurdles, and Jazmin Smith, a junior at North College Hill, won the 100-meter hurdles.

McNicholas senior Katie Cornell defeated NCH freshman Aniya Jones in the 800-meter run.

In the speed events, Finneytown's Shyla Cummings won the 100-meter dash and Hughes' Tiona Lattimore won the 200-meter sprint.
