Tap & Screw Brewery, which opened in Westwood a little more than a year ago, is planning a second brewpub in Oakley.

Brothers Tom and Jerry Lorenz and Tom's son, Adam, own the Westwood location. Adam, who will be taking the lead on the second location, has leased a space at 3026 Madison Road, at the intersection with Markbreit in Oakley Square. It's a Tudor-style building, a former funeral home, with oak floors, high ceilings, leaded glass windows and old woodwork, the owners said. There's space for an outdoor beer garden.

"We're going to play up what the building is" in designing the space, Tom Lorenz said, noting that the new brewpub won't resemble the original, which is housed in a former sports bar. The Oakley brewpub will have space for 170 to 200 seats.

Adam Lorenz, the head brewer at the Westwood location, will also brew at Oakley. At the latter, he'll brew small-batch specialty beers on a two-barrel system. Those offerings will be supplemented with beers brewed at the Westwood brewpub, 5060 Crookshank Road, including its All Jacked Up vanilla porter, Irony Belgian dubbel and Dr. Kool IPA. Last year, the brewery made just shy of 300 barrels in Westwood, Tom said.

As at that original location, a food menu will be offered in Oakley, though it will be much smaller than the menu at Westwood, Tom said. He said they're still working on what eight or ten menu items they'll serve.

If all goes well, they hope to open by early July. Tom said he expects the new brewpub to be open at least six days a week for lunch, dinner and late.

Down the road, the owners hope to open two or three more brewpubs around the city, Tom said.
