Goshen comes back to pull upset vs. McNick

Finding themselves in an early 3-0 deficit, Goshen was able to complete the comeback and upset McNicholas 5-3 in a Division II sectional softball tournament game on Saturday.

McNicholas jumped ahead 3-0 early, but the Warriors were able to fight their way back to tie the game in the third inning.

With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, freshman Kelsey Hyden hit a ball in the hole to shortstop, allowing both runs to score.

Sophomore pitcher Kelsey Rodich was able to preserve the win, striking out two batters to improve to 11-8.

Goshen was led by junior second baseman Shalee Gray, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior center fielder Bailey Rodgers was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

McNicholas was led by senior Danielle Piening, who belted a three-run home run.

Goshen improved to 12-9, which includes a current five-game winning streak, while advancing to play the Wilmington/Batavia winner on Tuesday.

McNicholas, ranked No. 7 in the Enquirer Divisions II-IV area coaches' poll, snapped a six-game winning streak and finished 17-7.

Louisville Ballard 2, Lakota West 1 (10 innings): Junior third baseman Haley Johnson went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, knocking in the lone run for the Firebirds. Junior pitcher Madeline Kurtz threw all 10 innings, striking out four batters.

Cincinnati Country Day 4, Aiken 3, Division IV sectional: Tied 3-3 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, senior Austin Harden grounded to shortstop, forcing a wide throw at first base, which allowed the winning run to score.

Junior pitcher Cam Alldred hit a one-out double in the seventh, but Aiken threw out the potential winning run at the plate. Alldred would come around to score on Harden's hit.

Alldred pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters to move to 6-1. Sophomore Greg Foster went 3-for-4 for the Indians.

Cincinnati Country Day (17-4), has now won 12 of their past 14 games. The Indians advance to play the New Miami/Riverview East winner on Wednesday.

Fayetteville-Perry 10, Seven Hills 1, Division IV Sectional: Junior starting pitcher Scottie Mullis threw a one-hitter with eleven strikeouts for his sixth win this season.

Junior first baseman Stephen Burroughs hit two doubles, knocking in three runs and sophomore second baseman Max Iles went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Fayetteville-Perry will face Cincinnati Christian in the sectional finals on Wednesday. ⬛
