Sycamore takes care of Amelia in sectional

Sycamore pushed two runs across in the fourth inning for the go-ahead score in Monday's 6-5 win over Amelia in a Division I, Cincinnati 3 sectional softball game.

Senior outfielder Becca Plaatje went 3-for-3 with two RBI and junior infielder Ellen Martinson finished 2-for-4.

Freshman Liz Izworski closed the game for the save.

Sycamore advances to play at Harrison on Wednesday.

Lakota West 5, Talawanda 0, Division I sectional: Junior starting pitcher Madeline Kurtz threw a complete game and struck out 14 Talawanda batters to earn her eleventh win this season.

Junior designated hitter Marisa Brown hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, her fifth this season.

Ursuline 3, Mercy 0, Division I sectional: Danielle Stiene struck out 16 of the 23 batters she faced to earn the complete-game shutout for Mercy on Monday night.

Stiene also added an RBI single to help pace the Lions offense.

Ursuline advances to play Colerain on Wednesday at the Blue Ash Sports Complex.

Glen Este 10, Princeton 0 (five innings), Division I sectional: Junior pitcher Brooke Parker (11-4) threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out six batters and recording her fourth shutout of the season.

Parker also went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, as Glen Este improved to 18-6.

Taylor 8, Purcell Marian 1, Division III sectional: Kaylyn Schmitz struck out 10 Purcell batters to earn the complete-game victory.

Ashley Proffitt delivered the big hit of the game, a third inning RBI double to spark the Taylor offense.

Taylor (14-5) advances to play the winner of Roger Bacon-North College Hill on Wednesday.

Baseball

Williamsburg 5, Mariemont 4, Division III sectional: Zack Ward launched a three-run home run and Williamsburg held on for the win over Mariemont in a Cincinnati East sectional.

Austin Horn made the lead stand, despite allowing four runs in the sixth inning, before closing it out in the seventh.

Williamsburg (13-10) will travel to play Blanchester on Wednesday.

Norwood 7, Miami Valley Christian 1: Jared Peters tossed a complete game and struck out 11 MVCA batters.

Peters also finished 3-for-4 from the plate, with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored to lead the offense.

The win moves Norwood to within a game of .500, at 10-11.
