Alabama offered La Salle junior defensive tackle Jordan Thompson today, according to Lancers coach Nate Moore.

Thompson, who is 6 feet 3 and 260 pounds, verbally committed to Northwestern on April 29. He announced his decision publicly on Friday.

He also had offers that included UC, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Minnesota, Illinois, Duke, Bowling Green, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Iowa and Toledo during the recruiting process.

National Signing Day is February 2015.

Thompson said he liked the balance between academics and football at the Big Ten program. He had narrowed his choices to Northwestern and Duke before giving his pledge to the Wildcats on Tuesday.

Thompson, an Enquirer Division I all-area selection last season, had 62 tackles, a forced fumble and 4.5 sacks for the Lancers.

La Salle will open the 2014 season in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown in August. The complete schedule will be announced on May 12.
