Moeller gets 1,000th win with victory over Harrison

Moeller scored eight runs in the third inning to blow open the game, going on to defeat Harrison 17-2 on Thursday and claiming the 1,000th win in program history.

Senior Zach Logue led the Crusaders, going 4-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBI. Senior Riley Mahan was 2-for-3 with a double and triple.

Juniors Jordan Ramey, Eric Conner and seniors Charlie Haunert and Joey Ludwig combined for nine RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Nick Bennett allowed just one hit and one earned run, while striking out seven, to pick up the win.

Leading 10-2, the Crusaders tacked on seven more runs in the fifth inning to seal the game.

Moeller, the two-time reigning Division I state champion, fielded its first baseball team in 1963. The Crusaders now boast a 1000-395-3 all-time record. Moeller coach Tim Held, who has been the head coach since 2008, has a 177-30 record.

Moeller, ranked No. 2 in the Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, improved to 18-4 this season. Harrison (18-8), ranked No. 8, has struggled as of late dropping six of its last nine games.

The OHSAA lists 10 other baseball programs statewide with at least 1,000 wins.

Oak Hills 11, Turpin 1 (six innings): Oak Hills coach Chuck Laumann won his 400th career game. Laumann is in his 23rd season coaching.

The Highlanders were led by senior shortstop Ben Laumann, who was 3-for-4 with a double.

CHCA 11, Clark Montessori 0 (five innings): CHCA senior pitcher Cameron Varga did not allow a baserunner, and struck out all 15 batters he faced.

Varga, now with three no-hitters this season, was consistently clocked between 91 and 94 miles per hour on his fastball by the five major league scouts in attendance, according to CHCA assistant Kevin Savage.

Sophomore center fielder Chase Murray was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBI.

Taylor 4, Mariemont 0: Taylor senior pitcher Tyler Kelty threw a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits.

Softball

Ursuline 11, Mount Notre Dame 1 (five innings): For the second year in a row, Ursuline has won the Girls' Greater Catholic League outright.

Ursuline senior pitcher Danielle Stiene had 13 strikeouts and improved to 13-1 this season.

Junior first baseman Anna Hecht was 3-for-3 with a double.

Glen Este 10, Amelia 0 (five innings): Glen Este senior pitcher Bailey Miller threw her second no-hitter of the season and struck out nine. Miller also went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Indian Hill 4, Taylor 3: Indian Hill senior pitcher Ally Hermes tossed a complete game with 10 strikeouts to earn her sixth win of the season.

Loveland 19, Walnut Hills 1 (five innings): Loveland senior Olivia Stanton and junior Brittany Talbott each homered.

Clermont Northeastern 11, New Richmond 7: Clermont Northeastern sophomore third baseman Lindsey Wright was 4-for-4 with a double and five RBI. ⬛
