CHCA's Varga spins a no-hitter

CHCA pitcher Cameron Varga, who is headed to the University of North Carolina to play baseball, has 37 strikeouts in his three starts this season.

Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy senior pitcher Cameron Varga threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts Thursday in a 10-0 win over Seven Hills in five innings. Varga, a North Carolina signee, has 37 strikeouts in three starts this season and hasn't allowed an earned run.

CHCA, ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer Division II-IV area coaches' poll, was led by senior catcher Kyle Davis (West Virginia signee) at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double and home run.

Junior right fielder Ryan Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

The Eagles put their unbeaten mark on the line Friday with another game against Seven Hills and then a showdown Saturday against Lakota West.

Fairfield 4, Sycamore 3 (11 innings): Senior first baseman Noah Heard smacked a double to lead off the bottom of the eleventh inning. Fairfield bunted the pinch-runner to third and Sycamore walked three consecutive batters to give Fairfield the walk-off win.

Senior Travis Rowland came in relief in the sixth inning and pitched 4 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts.

Senior starter Greg Simpson pitched 10 innings for Sycamore and struck out 17 Fairfield batters.

Mason 10, Hamilton 0 (six innings): Mason senior pitcher Chris Martin (Kent State signee) threw six innings, allowed two hits and struck out seven to help the Comets improve to 8-1 overall.

Mason, ranked No. 3 in the Division I area coaches' poll, was led at the plate by senior outfielder T.J. Dunn who went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI.

Williamsburg 10, Georgetown 0 (six innings): Williamsburg senior pitcher Lane Edmisten struck out seven to earn his first win of the season. Edmisten also drove in two runs.

Lakota West 10, Colerain 2: Lakota West, No. 2 in The Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, were led by senior shortstop Ike Cloutier, who went 3-for-3 with a double, while junior third baseman Austin Allinger and senior pitcher Aaron Bruch each went 2-for-3.

The Firebirds improved to 10-1 overall and 8-1 in the Greater Miami Conference.

Milford 7, Turpin 4: Senior designated hitter Tucker Houston went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while junior outfielder Kane Bateman went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the way for Milford.

Sophomore Kyle Ruehlman got the win and senior Tristan Lana got his first save of the season.

Western Brown 23, Bethel-Tate 1 (five innings): Senior catcher Pim Ward went 4-for-6 with four RBI, while senior left fielder Josh Boothby went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI and senior shortstop Devyn Wood went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead Western Brown.

Freshman pitcher Eli Crall got the win while also going 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI.

Softball

Mason 3, Lakota West 1: Mason, the No. 4 team in The Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, handed No. 3 Lakota West its first loss of the season behind Tory Stewart's complete-game pitching performance.

Stewart (Eastern Kentucky signee) struck out 10 and allowed just three hits.

The Comets' Hannah Mizener, a senior left fielder, came up big at the plate going 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and two RBI.

Mizener's solo home run tied the game in the fifth inning and she followed that up with an RBI-triple in the sixth.

Oak Hills 14, Middletown 2 (five innings): Sophomore third baseman Andrea Gahan went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while sophomore pitcher Kaleigh McCarthy had a double and two RBI and junior Bekah Finn went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the way for Oak Hills.

Junior Brooke Shad hit a pinch hit home run, sophomore left fielder Taylor Wilp went 3-for-4 with a double, senior second baseman Sammy Sagers went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and junior catcher Beth Drew had a double and an RBI to round out the Oak Hills offense.

Cincinnati Country Day 9, New Miami 8: Sophomore pitcher Missy Dieckman-Meyer led the Indians on the mound and at the plate.

Dieckman-Meyer struck out 10 batters, while going 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Junior catcher Lindsey Jarrell added two RBI for Cincinnati Country Day.

New Miami had the tying runner on third base with one out in the seventh, but Dieckman-Meyer induced a groundout and a strikeout to end the game.

CCD improved to 2-2 this season, while New Miami fell to 1-7.

Little Miami 14, Monroe 4 (six innings): Senior starting pitcher Molli Owens pitched a complete game to earn her third win. Owens finished 4-for-4 with two RBI from the plate and junior catcher Alexis Kemp finished 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
