Stewart strikes out 14 to lead Mason

Senior pitcher Tory Stewart struck out 14 batters to lead the Mason softball team to a 2-1 win over Lakota East.

Mason was able to get runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings and capitalize on defensive lapses by the Thunderhawks.

In the fourth, the Comets scored on an error, and in the fifth were able to get a runner across on a dropped third strike.

Despite taking the loss, Lakota East senior pitcher Taylor Fair drove in the team's only run on a third inning single.

Milford 2, Kings 0: Milford's Hannah Huffer was able to come away with her seventh win of the year. Huffer, a sophomore, struck out 10.

Kings' Sydney Ramsey struck out eight.

Taylor 14, Wyoming 8: Taylor freshman shortstop Ashley Bauer hit her first home run and drove in three runs to lead the Yellowjackets.

Junior outfielder Sarah Fellinger went 4-for-5 with a triple, while senior pitcher Kaylyn Schmitz fanned eight and picked up the win.

Baseball

Harrison 9, Talawanda 2: Harrison senior pitcher Michael Knollman improved to 4-0 and went 3-for-5 and drove in two runs.

Pitcher Zane Marsh took the loss for Talawanda, but went 2-3 with two doubles.

Springboro 14, West Carrollton 8: Springboro senior infielder Daniel Olson went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored, and swiped a base.

West Carrollton senior outfielder Ty Page led the way, going 3-4 with two doubles, a triple, four runs, and an RBI.

Woodward 7, Aiken 4: Senior pitcher Andre Christopher struck out six batters to pick up his first win of the year, while going 2-for-3 with a triple and home run at the plate. The homer was his second of the season. Woodward jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, holding on to improve to 1-2 this season.

Anderson 7, Walnut Hills 4: Anderson senior pitcher Zack Shannon struck out sevenand hit a double, a home run, and drove in two runs. Junior reliever Olie Stange picked up his second save.

GIRLS' SOCCER: St. Ursula named Terrence "Mac" Garrigan as its new coach Monday. As a player, he was a four year starter at both Anderson High School and Xavier University and is inductee in the Xavier University Soccer Hall of Fame. Garrigan went on to play professionally for two years. He has coached girls at Walnut Hills and more recently he coached boys at Indian Hill.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Middletown Madison coach John Rossi has been named the new coach at Fenwick. Rossi has been a head coach for 16 years and earned a state runner-up finish along with four district titles, a regional title and seven league championships. He has a career record of 253-118.
