A Boone County constable is heading up a gathering for people to pray for police, whom he says have been “specifically targeted and murdered.”

Boone County Constable Joe Kalil sent out a press release late Thursday night about the gathering, slated for Monday.

“You are invited to a prayer gathering with the specific purpose to pray for both: 1) Law Enforcement, and; 2) This Nation,” the release stated.

Anyone is invited is invited to attend the service at the Boone County Sheriff’s Office flag pole, Kalil said. “You don’t have to live in Boone County to attend,” the release noted.

The gathering will begin at noon on Labor Day. Kalil said “special invited guests” include law enforcement personnel and their families regardless of their agency’s location, and military officers and their families. Any and all law enforcement is welcome.

Kalil was not specific about police officers who’ve been “targeted” or “murdered” in the region or elsewhere. He did say via email that the feedback from the community has been "incredible."
