Mt. Healthy's Demico Jones gets to live his dream

Demico Jones says being selected to play in the North-South Football Game is a dream come true.

The Mount Healthy defensive tackle is one of several area players participating in Saturday's Divisions I-III game at Welcome Stadium.

"It's a great chance to meet new friends – to see your talents against (other competition)," Jones said.

The Divisions IV-VII game is at 11 a.m. and the Divisions I-III game is at 3 p.m.

Mount Healthy coach Arvie Crouch is an assistant for the Divisions I-III game and will coach the defensive line and special teams.

Tickets for the annual all-star event are $10 at the gate and good for both games, said Miamisburg coach and game organizer Steve Channell.

Princeton's Tyrell Gilbert (UC signee) and Colerain's Tegray Scales (Indiana signee) are among the other standouts scheduled to play in the Divisions I-III game.

Reading defensive lineman Shane Roy (Pittsburgh) and Clinton-Massie running back Bayle Wolf (Army) are scheduled to play in the Divisions IV-VII game.

• Withrow linebacker Percy Roberts has committed to Denison, according to former Tigers coach Jim Place. Roberts is 5 feet 11 and 215 pounds.

• Withrow defensive lineman Jermaine Carter committed to North Dakota at Bottineau. He is 6-2 and 260 pounds.

• Withrow linebacker DeShannon Oats (5-11, 220) committed to North Dakota College of Science.

• Northwest offensive lineman Sterling Clark (6-6, 305) has committed to Wilmington College, according to Northwest coach Nate Mahon.

BOYS' BASKETBALL: Clermont Northeastern forward Zach Murray has verbally committed to play at Southern State Community College.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Winthrop recently offered Lakota West 2015 forward Arianne Whitaker, according to Lakota West coach Andy Fishman.

Whitaker also has offers from Cleveland State and Wright State. She helped the Firebirds (22-6) to the Division I regional final this past season.

Whitaker led the GMC in rebounds and blocks per game.
