Roundup: Lebanon softball beats two top 10 teams

Lebanon, the No. 3-ranked softball team in The Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, defeated a pair of top-10 teams Saturday in Fairfield (No. 4) and McAuley (No. 7).

Lebanon beat Fairfield 5-0 behind junior pitcher Tara Trainer (Indiana commit), who threw a complete game one-hitter with 15 strikeouts. Senior catcher Kaitlyn Bergman (Toledo signee) led Lebanon with two doubles and two RBI. Sam Showalter (Toledo signee) went 2-for-3 with a double to help Lebanon.

In the second game, Lebanon junior pitcher Kimmy Frank (Toledo commit) earned her first win of the season with a complete game with 11 strikeouts. Frank also went 2-for-3 and drove in a run.

Oak Hills 4, Seton 2: Freshman pitcher Brooke Shad picked up her first win of the season, striking out five, in the first game of a doubleheader. Freshman Sydney McElroy recorded two RBI in the fifth inning to seal the victory.

Oak Hills 5, Taylor 3: Freshman Brooke Shad struck out six, while also recording two RBI at the plate for the Highlanders. Sophomore center fielder Val Hudepohl had a triple and a RBI, while sophomore Taylor Wilt had a double. Oak Hills improved to 2-1.

Ross 12, Colerain 1 (five innings): Ross improved to 2-1 after putting Colerain away. Senior starting pitcher Katie Carroll struck out seven and sophomore third baseman Kelsey Warman went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBI. Sophomore right fielder Layne Shields also drove in three runs.

McNicholas 13, New Richmond 4: McNick senior third baseman Maddie Sorensen went 3-for-5 with three RBI and junior center fielder Gabby Latreille went 3-for-4.

McNicholas 9, Indian Hill 2: McNick junior Gabby Latreille went 2-for-3.

Sycamore 14, Kings 5: Junior pitcher Lydia Sloan struck out seven batters to pick up the win. Freshman Liz Izworski went 2-for-5 with a double and scored three runs for the Aviators. Junior Jordyn Schuster went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, helping Sycamore improve to 2-0.

Badin 7, Edgewood 3: Sophomore starting pitcher Danielle Ray struck out eight in the victory. Senior third baseman Taylor Riesenberg drove in four runs, finishing 2-for-4.

Badin 12, Middletown 0 (five innings): Badin took care of business in its second game of the day. Senior pitcher Stephanie Clark struck out seven, improving to 2-0. Senior shortstop Crystal Rains hit a three-run home run and finished 3-for-4.

Fenwick 11, Princeton 1: Fenwick, No. 7 in The Enquirer Divisions II-IV area coaches' poll, was led by senior Alicia Hansen with a home run and two RBI, while sophomore Paige Lewis had a double and two RBI. Senior pitcher Abbey Watterson got the win for the Falcons.

Fairfield 5, McAuley 1: Fairfield, No. 4 in The Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll, was led by freshman outfielder/infielder Erin Burdine and senior catcher/infielder Kate Bartolovich, who each had two hits and two RBI. Senior pitcher Kellyn Hoffert got the win, while senior pitcher Ashlynn Roberts recorded her first save.

Baseball

Harrison 3, Lebanon 2: Harrison improved to 3-0 after using a first-to-third play in the bottom of the seventh that forced an error and plated the game-winning run. The Wildcats were led by senior center fielder Jacob Urbanski, who went 2-for-4, and senior catcher Luke Bowman, who was 2-for-2.

Harrison junior pitcher Michael Knollman got the win when he came on in relief in the sixth and got the Wildcats out of a bases-loaded jam.

Sycamore 12, Landmark Christian 0 (five innings): Senior first baseman Sean Clayton went 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the Aviators. Junior shortstop Sam Fredette had a double and two RBI for Sycamore. Senior Grant Price and freshman Josh Glynn each had two RBI, helping Sycamore improve to 3-0.

Lakota East 10, Olentangy 0 (six innings): Senior starting pitcher Kyle Lepper pitched a one-hit shutout. Junior left fielder Kevin Chapin went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI and senior center fielder Max Minniear finished with two RBI. The Thunderhawks are No. 4 in The Enquirer Division I area coaches' poll.

Springboro 6, Bishop Ready 0: Senior infielder Adam Armstrong led the way for Springboro with a home run and three RBI, while senior outfielder Patrick O'Gara went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore pitcher Mark Nadeau got the win for the Panthers, who are 3-0.

Springboro 5, Bishop Ready 0: Senior outfielder's Jack Schaaf and Chris Pluta each hit a home run to lead Springboro. Sophomore pitcher Jeremy Chapman got the win for the Panthers.¦
