COLUMBUS - Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich lamented "the stupidity of politics" at his first public appearance since suspending his 2016 presidential campaign.

In remarks Wednesday at the annual Governor's Holocaust Commemoration on the Ohio Statehouse grounds, Kasich said politicians often live in fear and it prevents them from doing their best work for society.

He urged people to look to the Holocaust survivor and World War II veteran honored Wednesday as examples of courage and living "a life bigger than ourselves."

Kasich was the last candidate in Donald Trump's path to the GOP presidential nomination when he left the race earlier this month, largely for lack of financial support.

He said Wednesday his campaign's message of healing and cooperation was "more important than anything else, including the dollars and cents."
