The single bullet fired through motorist Sam DuBose’s head was never recovered from the scene, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s office.

Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco’s office on Friday released a preliminary autopsy report. As expected, it determined that DuBose died of a gunshot to the head. The bullet entered his left temple and exited behind the temple on the right side, according to the report.

The manner of death – expected to be a homicide –won’t officially be released until the autopsy is finished. Postmortem toxicology tests are underway and could take several weeks.

DuBose, 43, died July 19 after a traffic stop. University of Cincinnati Officer Ray Tensing pulled him over for missing a front license plate. Tensing was charged with murder and fired from the UC department.
