Former Xavier assistant women's basketball coach Bryce McKey appeared in Kenton County Circuit Court in September with his lawyer, Harry Hellings. He is accused of inappropriately touching a player. The hearing was postponed because Judge Grothaus has a third cousin married to Brian Neal, head coach of Xavier women's basketball.

The former Xavier assistant women’s basketball coach accused of trying to sexually assault two current players is scheduled to stand trial next month on charges involving one of the women.

A bench trial is set for March 21 in Kenton County District Court before Judge Ann Ruttle, court records show.

Bryce McKey, 29, faces a third-degree sexual abuse charge involving the woman. He also is charged with providing alcohol to someone under the age of 21. Both charges are misdemeanors. He faces up to a year in jail.

The woman has said McKey asked her to come to his Covington home May 2. According to court documents, he gave her alcohol and "touched her buttocks on two occasions without her permission." The documents also say McKey tried to kiss her, but she pushed him away and left. The Enquirer does not name alleged victims of sex crimes.

No charges have been filed regarding allegations made by a second current player. That incident is alleged to have happened the same night. Rob Sanders, the county’s prosecutor, said last year that the she continually missed meetings with investigators after filing reports with both Xavier University and Covington police. Sanders could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

McKey had just taken a position with the University of Maryland when the alleged incidents occurred. He resigned after the charges became public.
