New York Mets relief pitcher Jenrry Mejia (58) poses for media day portraits at Tradition Field in February of 2015.

Mets right-handed pitcher Jenrry Mejia was permanently suspended by Major League Baseball after testing positive for Boldenone, his third performance-enhancing substance violation, MLB announced Friday via Twitter.

According to John Thorn (via Twitter), the official historian for MLB, Mejia joins former Reds great and Hit King Pete Rose as the only living Major League Baseball players banished from the game.

Mejia is the first MLB player to receive a permanent suspension under the league's drug-testing program. Mejia had 28 saves and a 3.65 ERA in 63 appearances for the Mets in 2014. He appeared in seven games for the team last season.
