Ripley Co. inmate captured after escape

An inmate who escaped from Ripley County Jail Saturday night was found by Indiana State Troopers Sunday morning.

Chris Rolfes, 41, escaped on foot from the jail around 11 p.m, according to the Ripley County Sheriff's Office. Authorities believed he was trying to flee to Cleves or Miamitown, Ohio.

Sheriff deputies searched the area surrounding the jail with assistance from the Indiana State Police, Milan Police Department, Versailles Police Department, and Laurel Police Department.

A passerby saw Rolfes walking along Indiana State Road 129 in Versailles around 8 a.m. Sunday morning and called police. He was captured shortly after by Indiana State Police.
