Spring NKY boys tennis preps all stars, 2015

Enquirer Media - which includes the Cincinnati Enquirer and Community Press & Recorder - announces the 2015 high school boys tennis stars. The Enquirer's all-city lists are taken from the coaches' association picks (where applicable). The Community Press & Recorder All Stars represent the all stars for the 26 weekly newspapers

Cincinnati Enquirer

Player of the Year: Austin Hussey,Covington Catholic - The senior won his fourth-straight Ninth Region singles title and advanced to the state semifinals. He ended his career with one state championship and one runner-up finish, and he will play in college for the University of Kentucky.

Coach of the Year: Al Hertsenberg, Covington Catholic - He guided the Colonels to their 14th straight regional title and a state runner-up finish in the team tournament.

Enquirer All-city team

First team

Austin Hussey, Covington Catholic: The senior won his fourth-straight Ninth Region singles title and advanced to the state semifinals. He ended his career with one state championship and one runner-up finish, and will play for the University of Kentucky.

Ben Emery, Highlands: The junior won the 10th Region singles championship for the third-straight year and advanced to the state tournament, where he won one match.

Max Cook, Covington Catholic: The freshman was Ninth Region runner-up to Hussey and advanced to his first state tournament where he won one match and lost in the round of 32.

Anthony Bosch/Blake Heimbrock, Covington Catholic: The sophomore Bosch and his junior teammate won the Ninth Region championship and advanced to state, losing in the first round.

Jacob Walters/Mason Geiman, Campbell County: The juniors were regional champions in the 10th Region and advanced to state, falling in the first round to the fourth seed.

Second team

Nate Doggett, Holy Cross: The junior was a Ninth Region semifinalist and advanced to state for the first time, falling in the first round.

Cameron Shi, Scott: The junior was a Ninth Region semifinalist and advanced to state for the first time, falling in the first round.

Anderson McDowell, Campbell County: The seventh-grader was a 10th Region semifinalist and advanced to state for the first time, falling in the first round.

Jake Haught/Jared Haught, Covington Catholic: Junior Jake and sophomore brother Jared were regional runner-up to their Colonel teammates but lasted longer than any Northern Kentucky boys doubles team at state, advancing to the round of 16.

David Geis/Drake Hudak, Ryle and Nick Elleman/Nate Eberhard, Conner: Both doubles teams advanced to the second round of the state tournament after reaching the Ninth Region semifinals.

Max Freyberger/Peter Laskey, Highlands: The senior Freyberger and his sixth-grade teammate were 10th Region semifinalists and lost in the first round at state.

Alexandria Recorder

Mason Geiman and Jake Walters, Campbell County: The juniors were regional champions in the 10th Region and advanced to state, falling in the first round to the fourth seed.

Boone County Recorder/Florence Recorder/Union Recorder

David Geis and Drake Hudak, Ryle; and Nate Eberhard and Nick Elleman, Conner: Both doubles teams from the county rivals advanced to the second round of the state tournament after reaching the Ninth Region semifinals. The Ryle duo are both seniors who will play for Thomas More next season, and the Cougar teammates are both juniors.

Campbell County/Community Recorder
