Two reporters from The Enquirer took home first place writing awards at an Ohio Associated Press banquet Sunday and three more staffers received top honors.

The Ohio Editors 2015 Annual Awards Banquet was held at the Columbus Hilton to honor the state's best journalism in 2014.

John Faherty and Sharon Coolidge each received 'first places' for their writing.

Faherty, a reporter for The Enquirer, was awarded first place in feature writing. Judges said the following about Faherty:

"Faherty knows a great story when he sees one, whether it's a prison production of The Wizard of Oz, a life-long smoker digging in her heels and her cigarette butts when her apartment building goes smoke-free or the saga of his own organ transplant."

Sharon Coolidge, the Enquirer's City Hall reporter, was awarded first place for best news writing. Judges said the following about Coolidge:

"Sharon's ability to go deep in her subjects is the hallmark of her work. But what really makes it rise above and beyond is making the personal connection for readers to the subject, whether a tragedy about a transgender teen who committed suicide or the hardest core of the homeless finally getting into shelter."

Alexander Coolidge and Hannah Sparling, two more Enquirer reporters, also received recognition for their work in 2014.

Alexander Coolidge, the Enquirer's corporate watchdog and higher education reporter, received second place for best business reporter. Judges said the following about Coolidge:

Good storytelling. This entry shows how versatile Coolidge is as a business reporter. His writing is clear and interesting. Makes you want to keep reading.

Sparling joined The Enquirer in February as the publication's education watchdog reporter. Before she stated at The Enquirer, two of her pieces with The Newark Advocate were honored.

Sparling's ""Foster Family" piece was called a "touching piece" by judges and received a third place for best enterprise reporting. Sparling's "Recovery Month Series," which she co-authored with Anna Jeffries, received first place for best community service. Judges said the work was "a thorough series with good facts, figures, pictures, storytelling."

Cindi Andrews, The Enquirer's opinions editor, was honored for her work with a third place in best editorial writing.
