An investigator walks through the intersection of Roe and Whetsel Streets, Madisonville, where Cincinnati Police officer Sonny Kim was shot and killed June 19, 2015.

The investigation of Cincinnati police officer Sonny Kim's death is nearing completion, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced late Monday.

Deters announced on Twitter that the "investigation into the murder of Sonny Kim should be completed late tomorrow," and said that information about the case could be released during a Wednesday press conference.

Kim was shot and killed during a confrontation with Trepierre Hummons on the streets of Madisonville the morning of June 19.

Hummons was then fatally shot by officer Tom Sandmann, who responded to what officials have called an ambush of Kim.

In the months following the shootout, The Enquirer and other local media outlets requested the dash camera footage of the incident be released.

Deters has said that he expects the video to be released eventually. He subpoenaed the video from the city and has seen it. He described it as “sad” and “gruesome."

If the video is released, that doesn't necessarily mean it will be widely broadcast or posted online.

More details about what led up to the shooting and what witnesses reported to police after the incident could be released.

Deter said during an Aug. 20 visit with The Enquirer's editorial board that if no charges were going to be filed against Sandmann he would likely turn over the video footage.

“Once the investigation is done, if it’s a no-bill,” Deters said, referring to the likelihood that a grand jury will not issue charges against Sandmann. “I think it’s likely it’s going to be released, that I would just release it.”
