NYT gives nod to Kasich for Republican nomination

The New York Times published an editorial Saturday calling Ohio Gov. John Kasich "the only plausible choice for Republicans tired of the extremism and inexperience on display in this race."

The editorial was released in conjunction with a much more emphatic endorsement for Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, which ran under the the headline stating, "Voters have the chance to choose one of the most broadly and deeply qualified
presidential candidates in modern history."

In the editorial on the Republican race, after enumerating perceived flaws in the campaigns of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, finally getting to Kasich is the sixth paragraph.

The Times editorial board wrote: " ... as a veteran of partisan fights and bipartisan deals during nearly two decades in the House, he has been capable of compromise and believes in the ability of government to improve lives."

The Kasich campaign was quick to capitalize on the editorial, tweeting "Proud to have the support of the @nytimes - Together we can make America safer & stronger ... ".
