Hamilton standout defensive back/wide receiver A'Shon Riggins (Indiana commit) has taken on a greater leadership role this preseason and that should help the Big Blue as it prepares for its season opener against visiting Milford Aug. 28.

Hamilton DB/WR A'Shon Riggins says the team's chemistry and work ethic have been effective this summer.

Riggins, one of the area's top recruits in the 2016 class, verbally committed to the Hoosiers as a defensive back this summer. He may also see time at quarterback for Hamilton this season.

Hamilton coach Chad Murphy said Riggins has been everything as advertised the start of his senior year. He's been a leader on and off the field.

"I try to say motivating things every day after practice just to keep the spirits high and not get too down on the guys," Riggins told Cincinnati.com this morning.

Riggins said he is optimistic in Year 3 of Murphy's tenure. Riggins said the weight room effort and the chemistry off the field has been effective.

Riggins said he liked Bloomington and he felt comfortable with Indiana.

"I feel like I fit in perfect with them," Riggins said. "The class that's coming in - I've been talking to the other guys that have committed. We are pumped that we are going to turn it around when we get up there."
