Alex Ranz, a lift operator for Perfect North, makes a hard turn down the slope Wednesday. Due to warm weather this season, the slopes finally made enough snow Monday Jan. 3 to open the beginner and most intermediate slopes.

The kids are out of school. The roads are bad. Families are either stuck at home or braving the drive to a nearby destination that offers a short reprieve from children hopped up on hot chocolate and snow day bliss.

We at The Enquirer have put together a list of activities for those of you interested in staying in or going out on this snow day. Keep in mind, Hamilton and Butler counties are under winter storm warnings until noon, meaning severe winter weather conditions are imminent or likely.

Drive at your own risk.

Going out:

Cincinnati Museum Center, 1301 Western Ave.

The children may be out of school but they can still learn something if you choose to visit the museum. Families can visit the Art of The Brick traveling exhibit to see classic paintings and sculptures made entirely out of Lego bricks or play at the Duke Energy Children's Museum. Tickets are $8.50 to $19.50.

The Robot Zoo Traveling Children's Exhibit, Boone County Main Library, 1786 Burlington Pike

Can you swat a fly? Flick a bug as quick as a chameleon? From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. children ages 4-12 can participate in hands-on activities at the library for free. This exhibit uses bio-mechanics of giant robot animals to illustrate how real animals work.

Winter Family Days at Newport Aquarium, 1 Aquarium Way

Two children, ages 12 and under, get in free with each full-priced adult ticket ($24.99) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
