Police are looking into how a 24-year-old woman died one day after she was transferred to the Kenton County Detention Center.

The woman was moved from the Campbell County Detention Center and booked into Kenton County on Friday afternoon, said Kenton County Police Chief Spike Jones. She died Saturday morning.

Jones said the woman was in a pod cell with other inmates, who told jail officers that something was wrong with the woman. She was taken to the hospital early Saturday morning and pronounced dead, Jones said.

Investigators aren't sure what caused her death. The autopsy results are pending.

"It could be anything from an overdose to natural causes," Jones said. "We just don't know."

More information will be available on Tuesday, Jones said. He added that the death didn't appear to be a suicide or from an assault.

The woman's name was not released and Jones did not know what she was charged with.

Police are working with the Kenton County Detention Center to gather all the details, including possible video, related to the incident.

"As unfortunate as this incident has been, the jail has been extremely helpful," Jones said.
