Update, Tuesday 5:30 a.m.: Cincinnati police identified the man killed in a Northside shooting on Monday as 24-year-old Javaris Lewis.

Police are still investigating the shooting. Suspect information isn't available, according to authorities.

Previous report: A homicide investigation is taking place in Northside after a man was fatally shot at Green Arbor Apartments on Monday, police said.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of Kentucky Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. and discovered a man in his early 20s shot, according to Cpt Bridget Bardua.

He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Bardua said.

Officials said a K-9 unit was called to the apartment complex in an attempt to track potential suspects, but there was too much foot traffic in the area.

Dozen of residents watched the scene from the parking lot. Police were restricting access to several of the buildings.

A red four-door car with heavy damage to the windows was parked near the location of the shooting. Police were investigating if the car was connected to the homicide.

This was at least the second shooting in Cincinnati Police District 5 Monday night.

Two people were shot in College Hill earlier in the evening. In an apparent shootout, police said they believe the two victims shot each other. Both are expected to survive.

"People that live in this apartment complex and in any neighborhood in the city deserve a safe place to live," Bardua said. "My officers in district 5 are very much aware that combating violence is a primary goal and mission for us."
