The Reds returned to town on Friday and so too did the rain — as Friday night’s game with the Brewers was postponed, marking the team’s fifth postponement of the season.

The Reds and Brewers will play a day-night doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game regularly scheduled at 1:10 p.m. followed by the second game at 6:10 p.m.

Left-hander John Lamb will start Saturday afternoon as scheduled, while Friday’s starter, Keyvius Sampson, will pitch in the night game. The Brewers will start Friday’s scheduled starter, Matt Garza, in the first game and push back Wily Peralta to the second game.

Tickets for Friday’s game can be used for Saturday’s second game or exchanged for any other game the rest of the season, except for Sept. 12.

Friday’s game was delayed one hour, 28 minutes before being postponed.

It was the Reds’ third postponed game of the season at Great American Ball Park and fifth overall of the season — plus a suspended game.

The Reds were rained out on April 25 against the Cubs and June 16 against the Tigers at home, plus May 8 at the White Sox and July 8 at Washington. Only the game against the Nationals, which will be made up on Sept. 28 at Nationals Park, is outstanding.

The Reds also had a suspended game in New York on June 27. That game was concluded the next day, before the previously scheduled game.

The Reds have had a total of 21 rain delays this season and 15 at home.  The Reds have now been delayed 27 hours and 45 minutes overall this season and 21 hours and 46 minutes overall.

“For a guy from the west coast, who now lives in Arizona, this is extremely unusual,” Reds manager Bryan Price said.
