The Archdiocese of Cincinnati named Susie Gibbons as interim superintendent of Catholic Schools.

Gibbons, currently the regional director of Catholic Schools for the local archdiocese, starts Oct. 1. She’s stepping in for Jim Rigg, who is leaving Oct. 2 to become Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago.

A national search for Rigg’s permanent replacement is expected to begin later this year.

“A graduate of Archdiocesan Catholic Schools, Susie Gibbons has devoted her entire career to Catholic education in our Archdiocese,” said Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr, who announced the new appointment Wednesday in a news release. “She will be a steady hand as interim superintendent over the next several months, ensuring that the strong forward movement of our schools will continue.”

Gibbons joined Cincinnati’s Catholic Schools Office in 2010. Prior to that, she was the principal of Seton High School for 13 years, according to the release. She also served as assistant principal, department chair and a teacher at Seton, as well as a math and French teacher at Archbishop Alter High School, her alma mater.

Rigg called Gibbons a “constant voice of wisdom and support” and an “invaluable member” of his staff.

“She is a woman of great integrity, intelligence, and drive,” he said. “She has a vibrant faith life, and lives out this faith in her compassionate and Christian treatment of others. Susie has my complete confidence in continuing the forward momentum of our Catholic schools.”
