A semi truck driver was killed instantly in Colerain Township when he crashed down an embankment and struck several trees Wednesday morning, police said.

The crash occurred on westbound Blue Rock Road near the ramp from Interstate 275 shortly after 8 a.m., Colerain Township police said. The truck's  trailer was empty at the time of the crash, and a small amount of ammonia leaked from the refrigeration unit.

The ammonia leak isn't considered serious by authorities.

The semi was traveling westbound when the driver crossed the double-yellow lines and off the left side of Blue Rock Road.

The driver eventually corrected, pulling his truck back into the westbound lanes. He then slid off the right side of the road, and down the embankment.

The road was closed when authorities arrived at the scene minutes after the crash.

Police expected to reopen the road by 10 a.m.

The driver was identified at the scene but his name hasn't been released by authorities. Police said that driver is not believed to be a local resident.
