Republic Street is a social experiment masquerading as a residential block. People planning five-course dinners across the street from people wondering how they will put something, anything, on the table tonight. It is a place to see how far we have come, and how much farther we have to go in Cincinnati.

Republic Street is where this city's cracks became a chasm in 2001, laid bare for all the world to see.

The block had the distinction of being arguably the most dangerous and lawless street in Cincinnati. Now it is not that. Now it is becoming something else. Or trying.
