Polly’s New Fave: Rotisserie potato bowl

The mashed potato bowl at Revolution Rotisserie in Over-the-Rhine

I was feeling sorry for myself, for no particularly good reason. And I’d just had some wrenching dental work done. And then I found the perfect thing for lunch.

It was the mashed potato bowl at Revolution Rotisserie in Over-the-Rhine. I’d gone in to get one of their rotisserie chicken sandwiches or maybe even a chicken dinner. But the idea of a bowl full of soft, rich, gravy-covered mashed potatoes was too alluring to pass up.

And it was exactly as I imagined it. The potatoes were the real thing, covered with excellent, not too thick chicken gravy, along with pieces of rotisserie chicken and bacon bits. Plus I got the optional creamed corn, which seemed to be just kernels of sweet, fresh corn. (The menu says it includes pepperjack cheese, but I don’t remember that as a prominent feature of the dish.) I felt like I was at home wearing flannel pajamas and my mom had made me dinner and said I could have as much as I wanted.

It may be the only time I indulge in this dish; I am more likely to get one of their fresh, tasty chicken wraps. But it was a perfect one-time intersection of taste, texture and a needy mood.
